Ghanaian midfielder Latif Blessing starred as Los Angeles FC began their MLS 2020 campaign with victory over new franchise Inter Miami.
The midfielder played 92 minutes of football before he was replaced by Bryce Duke as a Carlos Vela goal right on the stroke of half time separated the two sides.
Rodolfo Pizarro was inches away from scoring Inter's first ever competitive goal but he shot just wide - and Scotland international Lewis Morgan had an effort blocked.
Inter Miami's owner David Beckham watched from the directors' box along with wife Victoria and son Brooklyn.
Blessing has been a key member of the LAFC team since joining from Sporting Kansas City, and signed a contract extension during the off season.
LAFC will next play Philadelphia Union on match day 2 of the MLS
