The National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says it is ideal for anyone to applaud the 2017 budget due to a good foundation laid out by the immediate past Mahama-led government.
Kofi Adams also lauded the Nana Addo-led government for not sidelining some good policies by the former government that will help revamp Ghana’s ailing economy.
“I commend the Minister [Ken Ofori Atta] for that; he did not throw them out. If you are crediting the budget, then it is because of the good initiatives by the former government,” he told Kwesi Aboagye on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
The National Organiser of the NDC comment comes after a former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor advised the government to focus on stabilizing the economy this year rather than pursuing growth, since the economic fundamentals are weak.
Dr. Duffuor also applauded the 2017 budget, “We agree that accelerated growth of the economy is critically needed, but that cannot be achieved in adverse fiscal and macroeconomic environments."
“Once the economic fundamentals become stabilized and strong, it is easier to achieve growth. In fact, growth becomes automatic,” he said.
