Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, expressed confidence in his party’s overwhelming numbers, vowing to work towards eliminating excessive taxes and amending problematic portions of the constitution to serve the citizens better.

“We have told Ghanaians what we are going to do. Immediately all those obnoxious taxes must go. We now have the numbers to remove the e-levy and the COVID levy to remove the betting tax. With all of those obnoxious taxes, we have an overwhelming mandate to do that. We even have the mandate no; the numbers to amend portions of the constitution”, he stated at the residence of former President John Mahama.

Ablakwa characterized the election as a significant battle between the interests of Ghana and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He warned politicians against taking the people for granted, stating, “Don’t rule the state with impunity, corruption, and state capture; they will punish you, and that must guide all of us.”

The lawmaker also urged future leaders to eschew greed, corruption, and arrogance, advocating for a governance style rooted in humility and a commitment to meeting the expectations and aspirations of the populace.

According to him, former President Mahama’s win is a crucial lesson for all politicians.

He highlighted the importance of respecting the electorate, asserting that they should never be disrespected or disregarded.

He reiterated that the people are not merely asking for more but expect politicians to fulfill their promises, manage the economy effectively, and prioritize their welfare.
