The New Patriotic Party’s government has experienced 40% declination in Agric sector as compared to a low figure of 18.5% in 2016.
According to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the declination which is affecting the economy of the nation was a worrying trend, since the sector was one of the key areas contributing enormously to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Speaking at the 33rd Farmers Day Celebration in Kumasi, on the theme: “Farming for food and jobs”, President Akufo-Addo, expressed that, for the past decade, the contribution of the agriculture sector had declined from a high figure of 42 percent to a low of 18.5 in 2016.
“We can and we should overcome these problems if we keep our focus and ensure effective implementation of policies and programmes”, he said.
According to the president, low productivity, low application of technology, insufficient agro-financing, and land tenure issues among others were all part of the factors that affect the country’s agriculture sector.
He said, the government was determined to reverse the trend by implementing its agriculture programmes and policies such as the One-Village-One-Dam and One-district-One-Factory.
President Akufo-Addo noted that this was in line with the government’s vision to transform and modernize agriculture in the country to create wealth and jobs.
