The 2024 flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured the business community of the introduction of a flexible tax regime for all businesses when elected President.
During the conclusion of his three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the Vice President addressed small and medium-scale enterprise operators, emphasizing his plan to introduce a flat-rate tax regime. He highlighted this as a strategic move to create a favorable tax environment where businesses can predict their obligations accurately.
Dr. Bawumia also announced that the NPP government has allocated GH₵600 million to support startup businesses, potentially benefiting 125,000 enterprises across the country.
In his speech, Dr. Bawumia noted that under his presidency, taxes would be levied in Ghana cedis, not in dollars as currently practiced. He pledged to lower import duties at Ghanaian ports to below those of neighboring Togo, aiming to attract more importers to Ghana.
Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia promised specific support for People with Disabilities (PWDs), including the construction of modern training facilities tailored to their needs. He highlighted ongoing government investment in technical and vocational education, which has already benefited many PWDs.
Dr. Bawumia also outlined plans to establish common user facilities in all districts to support artisans, aiming to enhance livelihoods and living conditions across Ghana.
