Africa is the second largest continent in the world with a rich cultural history and experience. It is quite disheartening that despite the continent being blessed with beautiful sceneries and people, most people in other parts of the world think of it as merely a country.

Africa is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. In this article, let's explore the top ten most visited countries on the continent.

1. Egypt

Egypt saw around 14.9 million visits in 2023 according to Africa Facts Zone. If you are a Bible reader, you would know that Egypt is a large, Arab-speaking country in North Africa which holds rich cultural, historical, and religious heritage.



2. Morocco

Morocco and Egypt battle for the first positions for the most visited countries year after year as they both saw a turnout of almost 14.9 million tourists in 2023. In 2023, Morocco fell short of Egypt by a few hundred thousand.

3. Tanzania

Algeria is one of the largest countries by land mass in Africa. It is incredibly beautiful. The Basilique Notre Dame, which is, to a large extent, one of the largest cathedrals in Africa sits in Algeria, one of the largest countries by land mass in Africa.



7. Zambia

Another country that has seen a good number of tourists is Zambia. Victoria Falls is one of the most visited places in Zambia, a country in Southern Africa with a diverse and rich culture.



8.⁠ Mauritius

Mauritius is renowned for its lakes and islands perfect for a honeymoon destination. Some of the best things to do while in Mauritius are go surfing, go swimming, or spend evenings on the beach sipping cocktails and watching nature.

Mauritius is also a favoured spot for photographers.



9.⁠ Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a religious and historic place to visit. It is believed that it is the oldest country in Africa and one of the places where traces of the earliest civilisations were found.



10. Cape Verde

Lonelyafrica.com describes this as one of the most beautiful countries in West Africa. It might seem like a small country that is not very well known. But reports have indicated that it pulls in a number of tourists every year.
