What is so wrong about being referred to as Tony?
This sort of situation does not happen in the so called advanced countries.
I studied for a first and second degrees in the UK.None of the lecturers,even those with PhD,were not referred to as Dr so and so.Junior lecturers and very Senior lecturers were referred to by their first names.Most of them were in very senior positions and internationally ,well known. They actually insisted on being called by their first names.
Being called ‘Tony’ does not mean disrespect in any way .This man must get a fvcking life.Being referred to by one’s first name does not diminish one’s standing in society.
