By sheer co-incidence, Ghacem pays dividend around the anniversary of Rawlings' seizure of power in Ghana.
One of the most scandalous acts of his government was to sell the government's share in ghacem to the company. So while the company became richer, stronger, and more powerful, the people and government became poorer, and thus less able to control the activities and pricing policies of the company.
Rawlings was complaining that the achievements of his revolution have been reversed by his successors. Well Ghacem is one of his success stories, so he must be very proud that Ghacem has near monopoly of the cement trade in Ghana.
How many shares he got in return is not known. But Rawlings' adviser who advised the government to sell its shares to Ghacem was paid US$1,000,000 in 'consultancy fees', by the company.
