I’ll jealously guard the integrity of the judiciary – Chief Justice

Justice Anin-Yeboah has been sworn in as Ghana’s new Chief Justice by President Nana Akufo-Addo with a promise to guard the integrity of the judiciary.

Addressing the President and some staff of the judiciary and the presidency after taking the oath of secrecy and allegiance on Tuesday, 7 January 2020, Justice Anin-Yeboah promised to take the necessary steps to find solutions to the problems confronting Ghana’s legal system.

While expressing gratitude to Nana Akufo-Addo for the confidence he has in him, Justice Anin-Yeboah requested for the necessary resources to help him deliver on his mandate.

He said: “During my vetting by parliament it was evident that the following issues concerning the judiciary were of concern to the representatives of the people of Ghana.

“They are: The integrity of the judiciary and the continuous perception of corruption, delays in the justice delivery system, poor infrastructure of the courts and residences of judicial officers, inadequate resources for the running of the judiciary and justice delivery system, challenges surrounding legal education in Ghana.

“I want to assure the people of Ghana that I’ll continue to jealously guard the integrity of the judiciary as my predecessors in office have done and will take all necessary steps to ensure that during my term of office solutions are found to these issues of concern.

“In doing so, Your Excellency, I’ll count on your support to secure the much-needed financial resources for improved and efficient Justice delivery”.
