Media personality Bridget Otoo has criticised Gideon Boako, an aide to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his comments about protests against illegal mining activities in the country.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Boako stated that it was hypocritical for some individuals to overlook polluted rivers in Accra while protesting pollution in rivers outside the city.

He argued that equal attention should be given to both situations if the protesters are to be considered fair.

“Hypocrisy is when we gloss over the polluted Odaw River and the Lagoon in Accra but demonstrate over polluted Pra or Tano River outside Accra. #EqualAttention,” he wrote.

But Bridget Otoo has expressed disbelief that a prominent figure would make such a statement.

Bridget, a staunch critic of the current government, said if Dr. Boako could post such a statement, his mental state might need evaluation.

She described the statements as disappointing and uncalled for.

“Herh!!! Tell me this is fake… like he sat down, wrote this, comprehended, and pressed send? We really need to do mental health evaluations for some of our people,” Bridget wrote on her X page in response to the post.

Dr. Boako has since deleted his post following the massive backlash from Bridget Otoo and other scores of netizens.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians are currently outraged by the destruction of water bodies due to galamsey and have been urging the government to take decisive action.

Religious leaders, political figures, and state institutions have all voiced their concerns over the galamsey issue.

Additionally, the Organised Labour has announced plans to strike on October 10, 2024, if the government does not respond to their calls for action.
