Why Kwaku Manu was detained at Amsterdam airport

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has recounted the ordeal he went through during his first trip abroad.

In an interview with Zionfelix, shared on X on April 13, 2026, Kwaku Manu narrated how he was detained at Amsterdam Airport and subsequently sent back to Ghana.

He explained that upon arrival at the airport, he struggled to provide the name and address of the person he intended to visit, which led to his detention.

“I have experienced a lot because of travelling. I once visited a place where I was denied entry. When I got to the airport, I forgot the person's real name, so when I was asked to provide the name and address, I couldn’t because I only knew the person’s nickname.

“I think God wanted to save me from trouble. The immigration officers didn’t even ask me much, but I kept talking. I even asked them to connect me to Wi-Fi, but they refused,” he said.

He further noted that he believes the incident was divine intervention to protect him from unforeseen circumstances.

Kwaku Manu explained that the person he intended to visit was not the right person, and he might have ended up in a difficult situation if he had been allowed entry.

“Do you know what I did? After they took me to a room, I saw a mattress and just lay down to sleep. The immigration officer even asked me whether I wanted to enter the country or continue sleeping there. But God knew what He was doing.

“I even told the officer that I am a celebrity and that he should check my name on the internet. When he started typing, he entered ‘Manu’ first, and instead of keeping quiet, I told him to type ‘Kwaku’ first. Meanwhile, ‘Manu Kwaku’ would still have brought up my details… In the end, the person I was going to visit wasn’t even the right person to stay with, so I believe God was speaking to me,” he added.
