Popular Ghanaian comic actor, Dr Likee
Popular Ghanaian comic actor Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, widely known as Dr Likee, has opened up about the unlikely path that led him to become one of Ghana's most recognisable comedy figures and how he was met with concern from his own community.
Speaking on 3Music TV on April 16, 2026, Dr Likee, who started off as a Kumawood actor, revealed that for a long time, directors would only cast him in gangster or minor side roles, and despite his ambitions for bigger opportunities, he had little choice but to accept.
"I was always given roles as a gangster or a side role. I was always looking for a chance to get a bigger role. But the directors were always giving me such roles, and I couldn't say no because it was very difficult to appear on screen in those days. So any role I was given, I took and I played it well," he said.
The turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he started shooting comedy skits. He had cut off his signature dreadlocks and adopted a new low cut.
However, his switch was met with concern from his community.
"When I started making skits, some people told my family I had finally gone mad," he recalled.
However, as his content gained traction online, public perception shifted, and the rest, as he puts it, is history.
"There's time for everything. Switching from playing gangster roles to comedy roles happened at the right time. In God's time, he would make things work," he said.
