Ghanaian rapper Yaw Tog has reflected on his past deal with EMPIRE, stating that he would approach it differently if given another chance.

He explained that while he would accept the deal again, this time he would ensure his lawyer is present.

Speaking on a podcast, the “Sore” hitmaker admitted that at the time of signing, he did not have legal representation, something he now considers a crucial oversight.

Despite this, Yaw Tog believes EMPIRE supported his career by giving him the spotlight.

“With Empire I would say yes, but with my lawyer. My lawyer wasn’t present when I was signing. I think the deal was in my interest because they gave me the limelight,” he said.

He praised the label’s structured framework, noting that it makes it easier for artistes to succeed.

Now independent, Yaw Tog explained that he has had to build those systems himself to ensure his projects thrive.

“They have the system—if you want to drop, they take your project, put it in the system, and the system will do the work for you. But now that I am independent, I need to build my system and make it work for me,” he stated.

Yaw Tog added that every artiste signed under EMPIRE benefits from that system, but the conversation changes once they leave the label.
