Seven years after the Artiste of the Year was not announced at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards, Head of Communications at Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, has urged Charterhouse to announce the category during the 27th edition of the event.
The announcement of the category was halted and eventually cancelled after a ‘fight’ broke out between dancehall acts Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, leading to their suspension from the award scheme for a year.
According to Vida, it is time for the organisers to announce the winner of the 2019 category and make it the biggest surprise of the night at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards scheduled for May 9, 2026.
“Charterhouse, talk to us. The 2019 Artiste of the Year category, let it be the biggest surprise of the night and announce it. There, you will see Stonebwoy walk majestically to the stage to pick up that award,” she said.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were handed indefinite bans from participating in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after their altercation disrupted the 2019 ceremony.
The incident occurred when Stonebwoy mounted the stage to receive the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award for the fifth straight time, and Shatta Wale suddenly made his way onto the stage with some members of the Shatta Movement.
The reason behind his move remained unclear, particularly because of the long-running feud between the two dancehall artistes, which left many viewers stunned by what unfolded.
