Ghanaian actor, comedian, spoken word artiste, and content creator Jeffrey Nortey has opened up about the inspiration behind his annual show, ‘3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey’, revealing that the event was born out of his desire to showcase his multiple talents while creating opportunities for himself beyond traditional acting roles.

Speaking in an interview with Patience Adu on GhanaWeb’s Talkertainment, Jeffrey said financial gain was part of the motivation, but his vision extended far beyond making money.

“The motivation there is plenty. Money is part. Man must make money. Man must reap from whatever he sows,” he said.

According to him, he has always been focused on growth and finding ways to elevate his craft.

Growing up, he often wondered how he could use his talents to serve God, despite not being able to sing or play musical instruments.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know how to sing, I don’t know how to do this and that, I don’t know how to play an instrument, so what can I do for God? What can I actually do in the house of God? I want to do something. I want to be on stage with my talent.’ So spoken word came up. I gave it a shot. I went back to the books. I did my research,” he explained.

Jeffrey noted that he later incorporated poetry into his skit making, allowing his characters to deliver witty wordplay and poetic bars.

However, he began thinking about how to bring together all aspects of his creative journey under one platform.

“I always think about where I want to get to. It actually influences the next move,” he said.

The actor explained that his first love remains film, and the desire to continue creating cinematic experiences even when acting opportunities are limited contributed to the birth of the show.

“You’re a content creator, you’re a skit maker, but your first love is film. So if the producer is not calling you for a film, when are you going to have your film premiered?” he questioned.

This realization led him to conceptualize 3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey, a platform that combines the various dimensions of his artistry. After presenting the idea to his team, the maiden edition was held in a relatively small venue before growing into a larger production.

“I spoke to my team. I was like, ‘Yo, I need to do a show.’ We did the first one. It was awesome in quite a small space. The next two years after the first one, they said we have to go to a bigger space,” he recounted.

Jeffrey revealed that this year’s event marks the third edition of the show, despite many people only becoming familiar with it in recent years.

“This is the third one. We’re still building the fan base. Ghana itself is big, and the craft is not just for Ghanaians; it’s for the world. So we are still building, we are still growing,” he stated.

For the upcoming edition, Jeffrey says audiences should expect an even more ambitious production that blends film, stage performance, and street culture into one experience.

“This year, I’m actually doing film, stage, and streets. I’m premiering a whole film. It’s not a short film,” he disclosed.

Comparing the experience to a cinema outing and a live concert rolled into one, he added

“If you’re buying a ticket to go to the cinema, this time around I’m giving you cinema. I’m giving you a different kind of experience. And I’m giving you a Shatta kind of experience all on one stage, one night, same platform.”
