'The law is the law!' - Afia Schwarz reacts as Chairman Wontumi is sentenced to 20 years

In the wake of news about the sentencing of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Ghanaian media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has reacted with a somewhat celebratory post on social media.

Shortly after Chairman Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment, Afia Schwarzenegger, who has been in a longstanding feud with him, went online and shared a photo of her late father, thanking him for helping her secure vengeance.

"THE LAW IS THE LAW… HIS NAME IS KOJO AGYEI, AND HE'S MY GUARDIAN ANGEL OF VENGEANCE… YOU'VE NOT SEEN ANYTHING YET!!!!" she posted.

Her reaction comes as no surprise to netizens, given that her soured relationship with Chairman Wontumi has long played out on social media.

BREAKING: Chairman Wontumi jailed 20 years in prison

Afia Schwarzenegger and Chairman Wontumi have been embroiled in a bitter public dispute for years, trading insults and accusations across television, radio, and social media. The feud even escalated into lawsuits at one point.

Their fallout intensified after Afia made several allegations against Wontumi, including claims that they once had an affair and even revealed private bedroom secrets about the politician, prompting legal action.

In 2022, an Accra High Court awarded damages against Afia Schwarzenegger and some United Showbiz panelists after she made such remarks during the show, in a defamation suit filed by Wontumi. The court ruled that she had made defamatory statements about him.

The case deepened the hostility between the two public figures, who have continued to trade jabs in the years since.

Afia even proceeded to the Nogokpo shrine to seek justice when the issue escalated at the time, but to no avail.

Fast forward, she was tried in court over the matter but initially escaped throughout the proceedings.

She was later cited for contempt for failing to appear on several occasions and was handed a ten-day prison sentence.

The Tema High Court subsequently substituted the jail term with a GH¢60,000 fine and a 36-month good behavior bond.

Meanwhile, years down the line, Chairman Wontumi was on Monday, July 20, 2026, sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after the High Court found him guilty on all six counts in the illegal mining case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited.

The charges stemmed from allegations that he and his company unlawfully assigned mineral rights and facilitated unlicensed mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region.
