'I was completely clueless' - Uncle Ebo Whyte reflects on 43 years of marriage in heartfelt message

Celebrated Ghanaian playwright, author and motivational speaker Uncle Ebo Whyte has paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Florence, as the couple celebrated 43 years of marriage.

In a touching anniversary message shared on social media on July 23, 2026, Uncle Ebo reflected on his journey from what he described as a "clueless husband" to a lifelong student of love and marriage.

Looking back on their wedding in July 1983, he admitted that despite believing he was prepared for marriage, he knew very little about relationships.

"I was completely clueless. I had grown up around girls. Attended mixed schools too but I never really knew girls. Timidity kept me from getting close enough to learn anything about them. So I assumed women were simply men with different anatomy. And because I didn't know there was anything to learn... I never tried to learn," he wrote.

He explained that although he had grown up around girls and attended mixed schools, he never truly understood women and wrongly assumed they were simply "men with different anatomy."

The playwright also revealed that neither his years in a youth Christian group nor his premarital counselling adequately prepared him for married life.

"Premarital counselling is good. But in my case, it did not prepare me. Our counsellor assumed I already knew a lot because I was a Christian leader. I also assumed I knew a lot. Then marriage began... And I experienced what I now call gender shock," he said.

He credited his wife for helping him grow into the husband he is today, describing Florence's patience as one of God's greatest blessings in his life.

"Florence's patience gave me room to grow into the husband I needed to become. I made many mistakes in those early years... But every mistake became a lesson. And every lesson made me a better husband," he wrote.

Reflecting on the realities of marriage, Uncle Ebo said it is not an easy journey but one that shapes character and strengthens faith. He encouraged husbands to remain teachable and urged wives to give their partners room to mature.

"I wish every husband would allow marriage to teach him. And I wish more wives would give their husbands room to grow. Many of us men enter marriage thinking we know. Most of us don't," he said.

Uncle Ebo expressed gratitude to his wife for standing by him throughout the years.

"God has been good. And to Florence, thank you. You have made a husband of me. I love you today more than I did 43 years ago," he wrote.

The post has since attracted warm reactions from followers, with many congratulating the couple and praising their marriage as an inspiration.
