KiDi opens up on the making of his collaboration with Stonebwoy
Ghanaian singer KiDi has shared the story behind his collaboration with Stonebwoy, revealing that the dancehall star immediately connected with one of the songs he presented to him.
According to KiDi, he personally visited Stonebwoy at his home to play him several songs, hoping the award-winning dancehall artiste would select one for a collaboration.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on August 25, 2026, KiDi mentioned that Stonebwoy's attention was immediately drawn to “Liquor,” and he decided that was the song he wanted to work on.
“I called Stonebwoy and said I wanted to come to his house, and he said he was home, so I should come. We went to Stonebwoy’s house, and I played him a couple of songs, which were ‘Liquor’ and something else that I thought he would like, and I was pushing for that one,” he recounted.
He continued, “When he heard ‘Liquor’, then he said that’s it, and he didn’t hear the rest of the song. He said he didn’t know how the other songs sounded, but he felt like that’s it.”
The two artistes proceeded to record Stonebwoy’s verse during the session before taking the song home.
KiDi revealed that Stonebwoy later contacted him and asked him to hold on because he believed he could deliver an even better performance.
“We did the verse then and then took it home, and he called back that I should relax. He said I had seen what he recorded, but he felt like he pushed himself to do more,” he explained.
According to KiDi, Stonebwoy returned the following day with a new verse that impressed him.

“The next day, he came with a fresh verse, and it was fire,” he stated.
Beyond the collaboration, KiDi also disclosed that he has a collection of unreleased songs that he once believed would become major hits.
He explained that whenever he creates music, some songs stand out to him as potential global hits, but other songs eventually take their place.
“I have songs stored in a folder; the songs there that at the time I made them, I thought were going to be the biggest songs in the world. For some reason, another song came that took over,” he said.
KiDi noted that he occasionally returns to the songs in the folder and listens to them with a fresh perspective.
“Once in a while, I revisit that folder with fresh ears and try to listen to some of the songs that we’ve let go,” he shared.
He revealed that one of those previously shelved songs has now been selected for his upcoming album.
“One of them managed to come out of that folder, and it’s going to make the album,” KiDi disclosed.
The singer further stated that he is looking forward to fans hearing the song when the album is released, promising that he will eventually share the story behind how the song found its way back into the spotlight.
“I’m hoping that when the time drops, I want you people to hear them and one day, I will tell a story about it,” he added.
