Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has called on Ghanaians to join forces to reshape the perception of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

Speaking via Zoom on November 29, 2024, during the launch of KBTH’s Legacy Project fundraising and Heroes Awards Night, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng emphasized the need to reimagine the hospital’s image from one serving the underprivileged to a premier healthcare institution for all.

“Korle-Bu is still the best medical institution in this country. We should come together and change the image of Korle-Bu being a place for poor people to a centre that provides excellent care for everybody,” he stated, commending the hospital’s staff and management for their continued dedication.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng urged stakeholders to support Korle-Bu in its developmental efforts, which will have a lasting impact on healthcare in Ghana.

“So, people should support Korle-Bu in embarking on developmental projects,” he appealed, reaffirming his belief in the hospital’s potential to lead innovation in healthcare.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, who founded the hospital’s Cardiothoracic Centre, was honoured with a Heroes Award for his significant contributions to the facility, particularly during his tenure as a surgeon and leader.

As part of Korle-Bu’s centenary celebrations, the Legacy Project aims to transform healthcare delivery in Ghana by integrating cutting-edge technology and innovative training into its operations.

The project will focus on three key components:

1. Simulation-Based Training: Establishing a centre for anatomy education using dissection.

2.AI and Robotics Integration: Leveraging advanced technology to enhance biomedical engineering and patient care.

3. Healthcare Development Projects: Expanding the hospital’s capacity to undertake impactful initiatives.

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, one of Ghana’s foremost medical institutions, is commemorating its centenary with a series of events to honour its legacy and the individuals who have contributed to its growth over the past 100 years.

The Legacy Project underscores the hospital’s vision of elevating its standards and sustaining its status as a centre of medical excellence.
