The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is poised to play a very active role in the sixtieth anniversary of Ghana, President of the union, Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) has said.
According to him, MUSIGA will seek to engage the 30-member Planning Committee tasked to spearhead activities toward the nation’s 60th anniversary on how best to involve the union in the celebration.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Music Week Festival held at Alliance Francaise, Obour mentioned the union has lined up activities for the event in March to coincide with Ghana’s celebration.
“I was happy when Ghana @60 planning committee was outdoored. They should know that MUSIGA is coming to knock at their doors. There can’t be celebration without music and MUSIGA is poised to play a key role in Ghana’s Independence Celebration with the Ghana Music Week Festival,” he said.
The Ghana Music Week Festival is slated for March 3 to March 12.
Activities for the event include Ghana Music Day – a live television declaration and promotion of music of Ghanaian origin, Ghana Music Business Seminar, under the theme “Talk Music Business – the West African Experience”, International Music Expo at the National Theatre which expected to attract foreign participation from the United States of America, Italy, France, etc. and a 3-day exhibition and concert at the Black Star Square.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has revealed it will cost the country GHC20 million to organize the Ghana @60 celebrations and is relying on corporate bodies and philanthropists to raise the amount.
