National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi says it is hypocrisy on the part of the Criminal Investigations Department and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to now consider a 'doctored' tape as enough evidence to charge the NDC's National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
“Sometimes, our people in NPP can hurt our feelings. We are in this country where the boss of CID, Madam Danquah was captured in a recorded tape of a conversation she had with musician A-Plus, trying to conceal the committing of crime and when the tape came out, she said it is doctored. Who has investigated it? Who has called her or done anything to her?” he quizzed.
“We are talking about the hypocrisy which is being played in the case of the doctored tape of Ofosu-Ampofo because if similar leaked tapes came out involving the CID boss, Obiri Boahen and they were concluded as doctored tapes and they were not invited by the police, why can’t the same be done in Ofosu-Ampofo’s doctored tape?” he lamented on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show.
He wondered why the Police are rather after Ofosu-Ampofo who said the incidence at Ayawaso West Wuogon should be used to reform by-elections in the country; bemoaning that those who committed the atrocities in the by-election and even beat up an MP which was captured in video footage are not being invited by the police.
“They are not interested in inviting them; they are not interested in inviting the real criminals, the perpetrators of the atrocities and the brutalities in Ayawaso West Wuogon, but rather the person who said he wants peace to prevail, calling for a boycott, peace and calm in the party in order not to commit chaos and mayhem in the country is being tagged as wicked person," he bemoaned.
He insisted that the NPP government can be hypocritical with the doctored tape involving Ofosu-Ampofo as if it is the first of it kind in the country, but then the doctored tape cannot be used to intimidate anybody in NDC.
“We are talking about the hypocrisy of this government. Nobody can use this doctored tape to intimidate anybody in NDC. We are focused and we will do our work as a responsible opposition party and we will do so in accordance with law and peace and in the interest of Ghana as we have always done," he slammed.
“Why this hypocrisy that all of a sudden NPP believes in leaked tapes, CID believes in leaked tapes? Because of politics, we are tarnishing and demonizing Ofosu-Ampofo’s name due to doctored tape, but those criminals wearing earrings who committed those atrocities are free to go without any charge against them and nobody has been invited, look at this,” he jabbed.
