Voters in the United States of America are too clever to vote for Donald Trump of the Republican Party, Dr Samuel Adu Gyamfi, a political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has said, and urged Ghanaians to learn from that as the West African country goes to the polls on 7 December.

“The Americans are smart, they will not vote for Donald Trump and Ghanaians should learn from that,” he admonished.

For him, Mrs Hillary Clinton, who is the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, is a better choice as president for the USA.

Relating it to Ghana, he explained: “A society that understands their civil rights and responsibilities per the constitution of Ghana will conduct themselves in certain ways” that will enhance democracy and development of the nation.

To this end, Dr Gyamfi pointed out that if discussions towards the 7 December elections would be based on issues as some political scientists anticipate, it would inure to the benefit of Ghana’s democracy “but politicians do not want that and prefer to shift to issues that win elections for them”.

Dr Adu Gyamfi said he wished that the leaders of the various political parties, especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), seen as the major players, will “come to the table and argue on issues of electricity, economics and challenges that the country is going through”.

This, he believed, would serve the interest of the country instead of the insults and smear campaigning being done.
