Barely two months before the 2024 general elections, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wa Central Constituency has cracked the whip by suspending its Constituency Women Organiser, Takora Attawa.

According to the party, the move became necessary after her failure to desist from her "consistent display of gross disrespect, insubordination, and intransigence" against officers of the party as well as the leadership, an action it said was undermining the unity and progress of the party in the constituency.

She has therefore been asked to refrain from parading herself as an officer of the party pending investigations by the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

This was contained in an October 1, 2024, press release authored by the Constituency Secretary of the party, Mumuni Abass Sidik, and copied to the Regional Chair and Scribe of the party as well as the Disciplinary Committee Chair.

"We, the Constituency Executive Committee of Wa Central, hereby ask you to refrain from holding yourself as the Constituency Women Organiser pending an investigation into your conduct. This decision is made in accordance with Article 3 (7)(1) of the NPP Constitution, which empowers the Constituency Executive Committee to suspend any officer who misconducts himself/herself or shows intransigence pending an enquiry by the Disciplinary Committee," it stated.

Explaining further, it added: "The restraining order is served on you as a result of your consistent display of gross disrespect, insubordination, and intransigence towards the Constituency Executive Committee and the party's leadership. Despite numerous warnings and attempts to address these issues, your behaviour has continued to undermine the unity and progress of our constituency."

Specifically, your actions have violated Article 3(5)A(2) of the NPP Constitution, which emphasizes the importance of loyalty, discipline, and unity within the party.

According to the release, by the suspension, she is neither allowed to carry out any of her duties related to the office she previously held nor is she permitted to attend meetings of the Constituency Executive Committee.

According to the party, the restraining order placed on her is, however, subject to review by the Regional Executive Committee, per the party's Constitution, but nonetheless warned her against further misconduct as that may lead to even more severe disciplinary action.

However, many political watchers have questioned the timing of the move by the party, fearing that it could destabilize their rank and file and spell doom for its fortunes in the December elections.
