The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Abena Osei-Asare, has declared her support for the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

Speaking in an interview on Good Evening Ghana on January 13, 2026, Abena Osei-Asare, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa West, asserted that Ken Agyapong is the best person to lead the NPP to the 2028 general elections.

She explained that Ken was the right choice because he is the person the grassroots of the NPP are clamouring for, as they see him as the only person who can restore much-needed discipline to the party.

She added that Ghanaians also want a practical leader who will change the fortunes of the country.

“Currently, the sentiments around the country are that they want someone who is very pragmatic, one who says it as it is, someone who can bring discipline to our party. Because personally, I feel that the discipline level in our party has gone down.

“In every party, there are structures; there are systems. Many times of late, you see that the systems, the structures, are not working as they're supposed to work… Everybody stands for something, and for him, he stands for being honest about the way he feels about everything… his old demeanour also instils discipline. He stands for discipline,” she said.

Osei-Asare, who was a Minister of State in charge of Finance, also argued that Ken would be a more attractive candidate for the party because of his focus on job creation.

“Clearly, when you look at the pattern of voting in this country now, the youth form a chunk of it and they, for one reason or the other, don't stick to one party per se. They look at the sentiment. They look at what is going on currently. What do they want? They want jobs.

“This is a person going around talking about jobs, opening our eyes to the various opportunities that one can have,” she said.
