Ghanaian media personality, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart
Ghanaian media personality, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has declared that he will contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Gomoa West Constituency.
According to the outspoken broadcaster, he is confident of winning both the party's primaries and the parliamentary election to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.
"We need to change the face of politics…I will be contesting the NDC primaries, and I will win to become the Member of Parliament for this constituency, “he said in an interview shared on social media on July 12, 2026.
Captain Smart said the concerns of residents have gone unheard for too long, stressing the need for responsive leadership.
"The cry is so loud and it seems nobody is listening," he stated.
Highlighting some of the initiatives he claims to have supported in the constituency, he added, "We already have 42 boreholes, ten six-unit classroom blocks, free Wi-Fi, free Ghana Cards and other interventions."
His declaration comes despite claims by some officials of the NDC that he is not a registered member of the party.
It may be recalled that the Gomoa West Constituency Executive Committee of the NDC, in a statement issued by the Constituency Secretariat on June 8, 2026, after a duly constituted meeting held on Sunday, Jun 7, 2026, at the party’s constituency office, said it had taken note of such claims and formally reviewed the matter.
The Committee said, “It considered the reports and resolved to place its position on record for the attention of party members, supporters and the general public.”
According to the Committee, official constituency records do not indicate that Captain Smart is a registered member of the NDC in Gomoa West.

It further stated that he has not participated in any branch or constituency meetings, events or party activities within the area over the years.
“As a result, the Constituency Executive Committee is unable to verify or authenticate claims suggesting any formal association with the Party at the constituency level,” the statement noted.
The Committee also referenced Smart’s past public political affiliations, stating that he has at different times associated himself with the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
While stressing that every Ghanaian has the right to political choice, the Committee said consistency and clarity in political identity are important for maintaining the integrity of party structures and internal processes.
