The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah and fraud prevention expert and security consultant, Richard Kumadoe, clashed on TV3’s New Day on July 13, 2026, over the arrest and detention of NPP communicator, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The clash stemmed from confusion surrounding the arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over an alleged misappropriation of state funds by Aboagye during his tenure as the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Ahiagbah argued that after the arrest, EOCO refused to grant family members, lawyers and the NPP access to Aboagye for more than 24 hours.

However, Kumadoe explained on the show that, per the law, only family members and lawyers are supposed to be in contact with the institutions for investigations and not political parties.

Ahiagbah, displeased with the comment, claimed Kumadoe’s assertion was reckless.

Kumadoe, who was not pleased with the comment, replied, “Why would Richard Ahiagbah say that I made a reckless statement? He could have used a better word than reckless. Knowing who he is, forget about him. We all know who he is but let me give [an example], for purposes of public education. I’m saying that if Richard Kumadoe is picked up today by EOCO or by BNI or the police, they will not speak to political parties.

“They will inform my family; they will inform my lawyer of the reason why I have been picked and where I am being kept. They will even inform me at the point of the arrest or when I get to my destination.

“They will tell you this is why you have been arrested because normally you might be arrested on a particular issue but there are other issues for which they want you to answer. And they will prefer to speak to your lawyer because we are in a democracy where the rule of law is the name of the game and evidence is the name of the game.”

Read excerpts of the conversation below :

Ahiagbah: “The disdain with which he’s talking is fine. I won’t indulge him, because he is a superhuman being; so, we should allow him to feel super but the point is that everything he said now has not happened. His lawyers have not been informed, so if he doesn’t know, he should learn that one, that his lawyers have not been informed.”

Kumadoe: “No, but whatever Richard is saying has changed the whole dynamics of what we said or what I said, and I don’t know why he’s making me a point of reference today. I don’t know whichever anger he’s carrying and wherever he’s carrying it from, but because it’s Richard Ahiagbah, I won’t mind him.

“If I want to mind him, then I want to say that he should learn common sense sometimes. So, we will not take anything from somebody like Richard Ahiagbah who has no credibility. You don’t come on air and attack me because I expressed an opinion … and this should be your last warning.”

Meanwhile, Miracles Aboagye is accused of misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds amounting to GH¢55 million.

In a statement released by EOCO on July 13, 2026, the office noted that the investigation and arrest are connected to allegations relating to his tenure as the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
