I know many would relegate the decision by these two Regions' Delegates to retain the two besieged Officials of NPP to Tribal or Ethnic preference. But I would prefer to cite the coincidence of that decision with what is undeniably proper, legal expectation of that decision.
The two Regions followed the Constitution of the NPP, sheer commonsense, and the rule of Law. The Council of Elders decision is totally flawed, induced by mere popular street vibes and possibly, the fear of Nana Akufo-Addo.
It must be noted that these decisions would remain on NPP record ad infinitum. And the Council of Elders must be the full consequences of any fallout from their decision. The Elders, by that decision, did not solve anything to promote Unity in the Party, but everything to help Nana achieve his objective of getting rid of the two Officials because they supported Alan in the Primaries.
These Officials have done nothing that can be proven to have breached the NPP Constitution or derailed Akufo-Addo's campaign for the Presidency. So, where is the legal, or effective logic behind the suspension of the Officials?
Do we have to take it that so long as we hear some loud-mouths with some evil intentions scream for some action, the Elders must panic to grant their wishes, even if those wishes are not legal?
It looks as if the Elders have chosen to sacrifice the two Officials to make Akufo-Addo happy. Even if we were to accept the remotest excuse that one could be seen guilty by association, it is Afoko whose brother have been picked up for interrogation on the Murder case, that may fit for such decision but not both Officials.
What has Kwabena Agyepong got to do with the Murder case to be judged upon its incidence? Critically, even Afoko doesn't deserve to be pushed out, in the absence of any strong evidence or association to the Murder. The fact that his brother may have committed the crime, does not necessarily mean Afoko knew about it or ordered it. It is very common to find someone who admires another strongly to react to a situation, presumably, as favor to the admired without the latter's prior knowledge or consent, or approval. Would we always jump to blame the admired for any crime such an action by the admirer resulted in?
If that is the case, then Akufo-Addo should have long been forced to step aside, when his henchmen attacked Afoko and Agyepong at the Party HQs soon after the two took over the Administration of NPP. In that case ,it would not matter how close the relationship is between the perpetrator and the perceived beneficiary of the illegal act.
Long Live Ghana!!!
