The NDC tricksters are again trying to blindfold Ghanaians in order to rig the 2016 elections because they know they have failed miserably and Ghanaians want them out.

NDC has never accepted that the voters' register was bloated and corrupted. In fact, they claimed it was clean, credible and ready for use in the 2016 elections. We can only deliberate on whether to change or clean the present voters' register when we all know and accept that there are problems with the register, and the magnitude of the problem will determine which of the options to choose. How can NDC advocate for cleaning the voter's register when it refuses to accept that it is tainted and corrupted?

The NDC/EC league should have investigated the corrupted and boated register allegations to make sure that they exist before embarking on the solicitation of views on whether to go for a new voters' register or clean the present one. How do you clean something you don't believe it exists in the first place?

Cleaning or changing the voters' register will depend on the magnitude of the problem as we have stated earlier. Whereas NPP believes the problem is huge and requires a new register, the NDC party denies existence of any problem in the register and yet advocates for cleaning it. So, what do they want to clean?

A number of issues readily comes to mind from the presentation of the EC.
1. The census captures everybody in the country. Can we say from the census data captured this percentage of people are Ghanaians and that percentage are non-Ghanaians and therefore based on that, the voters captured on the register satisfy the constitutional requirement of being a Ghanaian before being eligible to vote, and also addressing those estimated and actual percentages of registered voters?
2. The EC Chair in their presentation talked about Ghanaians in say Togo and Burkina and Ivory Coast and the ECOWAS region and how the fact that they were found on Ghana's register did not necessarily mean they were ineligible to be on the voters register and the NPP needed to provide proof and also the legal regime needed to be looked at so as not to disenfranchise such Ghanaians. The question we would like to pose to the EC Chair is has she heard of ROPAL and when it was passed and what is sought to do with respect to Ghanaians who are eligible to vote but are outside the borders of this country?
3. In the EC's presentation and the demonstration, using Koku as demonstration, from the form 1A, the data captured that forms the basis of providing a biometric vote ID card, does not essentially capture the nationality of the registrant, which again is a constitutional requirement for one to be captured and subsequently eligible to vote. This she referenced the cooperation of political parties, members of the communities and stakeholders to ensure did not happen. That is not a foolproof system as has been demonstrated. So how then can anybody for that matter even begin to say, the register as presently compiled, is credible?
There are so many questions about the current register which makes a huge mockery of the current register, it's credibility and it's integrity to be used for any elections.
The issue of time and money and all that should not be the underlining preconditions to prevent Ghana from getting a new, freshly compiled and credible voters register for the 2016 elections, and because the register is completely flawed and bloated beyond measure.
The statistical margin of errors being bandied around as somewhat acceptable cannot be make any sense when the margins of victory and losing in a keenly contested election can be within the range of either 100 to the thousands.
We need to do the right thing as a country and most especially for the 2016 elections.

The thing is that it is not within the purview of the EC to determine who is a Ghanaian or not a Ghanaian. When a person appears before the EC to register and has the prerequisites that define him or her as a Ghanaian, the EC is bound to register that person. It cannot go behind that person to find out if that person is registered in another jurisdiction. If Bawumia claims he has found nonGhanaians on our register he has to show us how he came to that conclusion.

The reality is evidence has indeed been presented and the EC would need to explain if it was implementing ROPAL and how those foreigners happened to be on the register when the EC is at a disadvantage in determining who gets on the register based on nationality.
