Allah happened to be one of the 360 idols of pre-Islamic Arabia which was worshipped in Arabia. Note Mohammed's father, a pre-Islamic Arab, was Abdullah--slave of Allah, the god of the Quraysh tribe. Mohammed chose the tribal god and clothed it wth divinity for Islam.
