The lifeless body of the woman was retrieved by the police
The Asokowa Divisional Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a woman at Atasemanso in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region.
The woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, is alleged to have drowned in well Thursday evening.
Residents in the area were in a state of shock, following the mysterious death of the woman.
The lifeless body of the woman was found in the well when they went to fetch water Friday morning.
“We are confused how the deceased landed in the well water since it is covered. We don’t know whether she forced herself in the small hole or someone deliberately push her in the well,” a resident, Lydia Owusu, said.
Residents in the area have over the years relied on the well for safe water but with this incident, they have to look for another alternative.
The deceased, who is yet to be identified, left her phone and money on the edge of the well.
The Asokwa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Cosmos Damoah, said they will conduct a post-motem on the body and also try and contact someone on the deceased’s phone for identification.
