Bolgatanga Jan. 28, GNA - The Upper East Regional branch of the Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union (ICU), on Friday endorsed the decision of their National Executive Council (NEC) to disaffiliate from the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
They also pledged their unflinching support for the General Secretary and the leadership of the ICU.
Representatives from all the local branches of the ICU in the Region arrived at this resolution in Bolgatanga after their leaders had briefed them on the current developments in the Union.
"All the local branches, in the formal and informal sectors in the Region re-affirm their determination to remain loyal and committed members of ICU and that we will never allow any break away faction of the Union to confuse or mislead us."
They said they were surprised at the role the TUC played to facilitate the break-away and the formation of UNICOF from ICU, which was a violation of a fundamental provision of TUC's constitution that protected its affiliates against factionalism and disintegration. The resolution condemned what they termed negative, false and wicked media propaganda by some newspapers to discredit their General Secretary, Mr. Napoleon Kpoh.
The Regional Council Chairman, Mr. Paul Ayelazono, the Vice Chairman, Ms Gloria Issifu Ansah and the Secretary, Mr. Mumuni Musah, signed the resolution
