There could be foul play in this case. How could they say “he had been absent for several days”? Who supervises the teachers? How long does it take to walk to his bungalow? Is he not married at 58?

Are you crazy? Do you know some thing called cardiac arrest or heart failure?
From 55 years onwards, no one should be living alone. Get your brother's children to come be with you. Or hire a househelp whose presence can make sure they alert someone if you have a medical emergency.
I agree with you. From that age, any medical emergency eg cardiac arrest/heart attack, stroke etc. can strike at any time.
