Police in Kumasi have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Francis Arthur, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Sally Benson, in what authorities suspect to be a case of domestic violence.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at Ayigya-Maxima, shocking residents and loved ones of the deceased, a popular beautician and entrepreneur in the city.

According to police reports, Sally Benson had gone to Arthur’s residence with a female friend after receiving information that another woman had visited him. The suspect was not at home when they arrived but reportedly returned later.

Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare explained that “during a confrontation between the two, the suspect allegedly assaulted the deceased multiple times.”

Benson is said to have collapsed during the altercation.

Police further indicated that Arthur allegedly transported Benson in her own vehicle to the KNUST Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect was arraigned before Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter at the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday and was remanded into custody.

He is expected to reappear on May 8, 2026. Family members of the deceased were present in court.

The death of Sally Benson, owner of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special Pub in Asokwa, has left her family devastated.

Her father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, speaking in grief, recounted what he had been told about the incident, “Sally’s friend has made us understand everything. It’s Francis Arthur, a boyfriend whom I personally do not know. Sally got information that another lady had visited him, so she went there.

“They waited because he wasn’t around. When he finally came and she confronted him, it led to a heated argument. According to the girl, the man beat Sally until she fell. They poured water on her and rushed her to Tech Hospital, but upon arrival, they said she had already died. Just like that, you’ve killed my daughter.”

The grieving father is now calling for justice.

“I want justice. We are in a nation governed by law, and we do not take the law into our own hands. I believe the law has a way of dealing with such cases, and that is what I want for my daughter and the family,” he said.

Overcome with emotion, he added: “She is too young… May the government of Ghana make the laws work for us. You can’t kill my daughter. Her mother is late, and she was the only daughter. How? May justice prevail.”

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
