Ex-Black Stars coach E.K Afranie says captain Asamoah Gyan holds the key to Ghana’s successful campaign at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.

Gyan was top scorer in the African qualification series and has a total 39 goals in 77 appearances.

The Al Ain striker won his third straight Arabian Gulf League goal king this term with 29 goals and leads the scorers chart in the Asian Champions League with 10 goals.

Afranie believes Gyan, who has scored four goals in eight World Cup matches, will be Ghana’s weapon of destruction in Brazil.

“Asamoah will be key. If he gets a good tournament we are good but if not we will have a problem,” Afranie told GHANAsoccernet.com

“He is a player I have watched grow with so much pride and he should take this World Cup as an opportunity to write his name finally into history books of Ghana football.”

Asamoah had a bittersweet campaign at the 2010 finals in South Africa when his extra-time goal sent Ghana through to the quarter-final in the 2-1 win over USA.

But he smashed a last-minute penalty against the goal post against Uruguay, which could have sent them into the semi-finals.
