BUT RATHER CHOSE TO TREAD THE PATH OF THE UNFORTUNATE,TO COME HOME,AND PLAY FOR GHANA,FOR ALMOST NOTHING.
My question is:
HOW MUCH CAN GHANA PAY HIM?
CAN GERMANY PAY HIM BETTER THAN GHANA?
This guy loves Ghana,so please,stop criticising him,period.
AT LEAST,HE HAS SHOWN LOVE TO GHANA,MORE THAN HIS ELDER BROTHER.
AND THAT ALONE,SHOULD HAVE SILENCED YOU GUYS TO CONSIDER THAT,RATHER THAN ALL THESE UNECESSARY CRITICISM ON HIM.
I don't think he is playing on the minds of Ghanaians.

HE MIGHT HAVE A REASON WHY HE IS NOT PATRONIZING IN THE GAMES NOW.

Balotellis case is difrent from KPB..KWAKU, can U believe that BALOTELLI is Always ready to help his country to win any match when he is called by the National coach? His (Balotelli) character on the field doesnt mean to fake INJURIES. KPB is fooling U Kwaku AND THE Ghanaian media and those who cant see that are the LEADERS namely :- The head of GFA Akwasi Nyantakyi and his BS coach Akwasi Appeah..Kwaku i dont see the reason why they cant even Psychologically see THAT kpb is on their nerves making them STUPID and FOOLS and they dont seems to have notice it..I think may be they think KPB is the MESSIAH to save Ghana to lift that precious WC cup in 2014 that, without him kpb, Ghana is nothing..
These dedicated players have fought their way truu up to this level
.Ghana dont need KPB so on this note , do u think Kwaku, i was wrong
to make this STATEMENT telling AFRICANS have shallow BRAINS?. I am 120% right . Anyway, have a nice
day.Ps,, I remember in the early 90s there was a mutiny in the GERMAN
team when Lothar MATHEUS was writting a book abt his life being
the most caps in history to the national team which was coached by Berty Vogts..Vogts Always includes LOTHAR in the squad to
mainting his record of being the most cap..Klinsman, Brehme, Voller
etc the whole team mutinised agianst that idea of Berti Vogts who always pick Mattheus reach that level.Instead of scoring during a match they shoot the ball away from goals.
BERTI VOGTS LOST HIS JOB..HE was fired by DFB. I hope Nyantakyi and Apeah can learn a lesson from that and trust those Dedicated players who made it POSSIBLE up to this level..

Get real, Mr. Mensah. KPB only wanted to play for Ghana because he is no longer good enough to make the German team and had a discipline problem. It does not mean that Ghana should suck up to him.
You asked "HOW MUCH CAN GHANA PAY HIM?" Well, I hate to tell you this but nobody 'directly' gets rich from playing for a country. Nobody! But remember that when KPB left the Spurs he had no major prospects. It is the exposure he got for playing for Ghana in the WC that led to teams being interested in him today. So indirectly Ghana has helped him make money.
However, we do not need to be chasing after him. He is a midfielder (just like everybody else in Ghana; even Rawlings, K4, and Mahama might be midfielders). We have tons of those. He does not want to play for us. And we are doing well without him. Why are we trying so hard to get this guy to come back and take advantage of us again? Our kiss-ass coach and his kiss-ass boss Nyantakyi should find something better to do with their time rather than chase after KPB. Which of the players that had taken us this far is KPB supposed to come an replace?

No one is chasing after KPB we are asking him in other words inviting him like any other player to come play for the national team but if he's not fit or doesnt want to play lets leave him alone. He's not used to all these heckling from a whole nation like he's the only player we have. You also called the coach and Nyantakye kiss-ass which they are not they just doing the prudent thing applying much common sense. We need Kevin much as he needs us. All the players were fielded to work together towards goals, so if someone in a good position scored, was that not what he was there for?

I love your comment! 1000 chances indeed. People didn't know what they were talking about. The player is good and you telling me to avoid him. Both Polo and Tony Yeboah were talking with their eyes closed. They were not looking at the big picture. Tony Yeboah should be the last person to talk about patriotism. A player the country used to beg before he puts on the national jersey and had the nerve to say a word in this matter. If he was to be a coach and wants to win, do you think he would have omitted KPB from his squad? What a hypocrite he is.
Like I said, this has nothing to do with patriotism. The player provided all the necessary document to excuse him from playing those matches. He who doesn't understand should take a hike.
He is back and will play. If he is injury prone and so not fit to play, that is understandable. However, if one is beating about the bush with that patriotism junk, that person has a long way to go in advocating against the player's inclusion.

I told my friend I have left the decision completely to AA and I will accept his choice.....PERSONALLY I would NOT have called KPB, but if AA decides to call him, I will support him. AA could have gone 50:50 on this decision, so if he has decided to give KPB another chance let us hope, for the sake of Ghana as a whole, that KPB will justify the decision of the coach.

Slim, your comment "Look who is talking about Justice" is missing the point.
No one called for his exclusion from the national until HE started playing smart.
Of course, once some people noticed that he wanted to play certain games and not play certain games, they called for his exclusion as we want players who are willing to play in whichever game and not certain games of their choice.
You say to define fairness. Ill tell you.... fairness is where someone who works towards a goal has the opportunity to reap the benefits of their hard work. So Slim, you are telling me you honestly do not have any regard for the player who has played throughout the qualifiers to get Ghana to the WC, who is then dropped for KPB to play?

On the other hand, some players are better than others and when the most important tournament is ahead of us, whether you played from 20 years ago or just started playing, once you are part of the country and holds that passport, you should be given the opportunity to represent your country.
The national team doesn't belong to a particle citizen. It is like the presidential candidates. The best is supposed to be picked to rules us. Whether one has worked his way to the top or not, if he is not the best, why pick him?
Have you read my comment, "Benefit from Retirement"? please do so. Some are capable in taken us higher but that doesn't mean they can take us to the highest. Besides, not that Kevin didn't want to play after his renouncement. He wanted to play and my witness is his coming down during Zambia match. Who ruled him out? Was it his club medical specialist? It was our own, fitness specialists. So whose fault was that? Then why blame the player?
Like I said, I think it is more than fair for him to participate in his nation's assignment. For us to take him out would rather portray unfairness because he is a citizen of the country. It is just that he gets hurt often. That is not his fault.

Fairness in this case is about who will help us to achieve our GOAL and not some spurious definition to soothe some ego. You don't seem to understand this simple principle because you are a typical African endued with backwardness, vindictiveness and foolish pride. To you, fairness, responsibility and patriotism should be a prerequisite for participating in soccer but not needed to lead the country. With a mentality like that...
It is about acquiring the TOP of the CREME as a Nation to achieve our GOAL. Every Nation does it when it comes to achieving their GOALS, be it in WAR (POLITICS), SCIENCE or GAME. The USA needed scientists to advance and guess what they did, gave automatic citizenship to EINSTEIN, a German Jew to achieve that goal-to win the war. They have a policy whereby PhD holders don't need to wait for years to become citizens. Why? Because they need them to build their economy. The same goes with athletes, we know how advanced nations give automatic citizenship to top athletes so that they can run for them. Canadians did that to Ghanaian athletes who refused to go back after commonwealth games. And for your information, when these top athletes give them any excuses, they are still willing to give them the chance to participate, because all they care is- achieving their GOAL.
It is only idiotic Africans basking in their stupid pride when they don't even have any morals but still sitting on their holy high horses demanding respect, fairness, and patriotic from top people to achieve a goal that will bring an honor and glory to the whole Nation. Had Essien joined us in the 2010 world cup, our story would have been different, but he is now in our camp, because we need him. Click on the health blog by Dr. Joseph Boateng on the left hand side of this website and read how medical doctors who are trained outside find it difficult to go and help in Ghana. To you, because they are not in Ghana or were trained in Ghana but left, they should not be allowed back because they were not patriotic, huh?
Like I said, our aim should be our GOAL. If the person is good and he will help us to achieve our Goal, everything should be done to pursue him to come and join the team. It would be different when he comes in and not willing to participate or try to "destroy" the team, that is when we can say that he is not patriotic or irresponsible. But we know KPB what he does on the field. If the Coach thinks he is a good fit, who are you to demand fairness and responsibility?

You seem to be getting your facts confused. There are TWO separate issues here
1. is the issue of fairness
2. is the issue of the best resources to help us achieve our goal.
These 2 issues are inter-linked in this case but not the same.
Achieving the goal does not necessarilly mean it will be FAIR for ALL parties involved. This is where the terms "by hook or crook" or "win at all costs" come in. These terms suggest that mankind has known that it is possible to achieve a goal in various ways, some of which may not be as straight forward as they seem.
So the argument is should we be fair, or should we do what we percieve to be the best way to achieve our goal even if that means there will be some collateral damage along the way. Therefore for you to say "Fairness in this case is about who will help us to achieve our GOAL" is not right..... I had ALREADY raised this debate.. see my comment RE @ Slim where I talk about having this debate with a friend last weekend.
However, I must commend you for going on to conclude that I am a backward, vindictive, foolish, idiotic and stupidly prideful typical African just because I have an opinion........look who's talking about high horses!

The world has not been fair and if you don't know this, then I don't know how I can help you. Sometimes, it is about it is about race. other times it is about tribe. And another time is about CLASS. This is a case about CLASS. The same reason why a special plane would be ready to pick up Michael Jordan from his party to the basketball court during playoff games. Not all the players get that chance. Get that and stop talking about fairness.

I absolutely agree with Appiah. He has to be given the chance becos of his quality! For those who think otherwise, i ask this question: Should Messi relinquish his nationality and want to play for Ghana at the world cup, would we refuse? Anybody who can enhance our chances should be brought in. Even if another Ghanaian in the diaspora who never played for Ghana eg. Erabi or Memphis Depay! This guy has had similar injuries like Essien and that has plagued his career so if he is reluctant to play on a potholed pitch in Ghana which can exacerbate his injuries how can we blame him? If he was a politician, stealing Ghana's money or a highcourt judge taking bribes to throw out a high profile case, his patrotism wouldnt have been brought into question. Let him play Akwasi!!!

South African satellite channel SuperSport International has agreed to pay in excess of R2-billion (approximately US$285-million) for the TV, mobile and internet rights for the country’s
Premier Soccer League (PSL) over the next five years. SuperSport has signed a US$2.5 million deal with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to secure the broadcasting rights to the country's top soccer league.
The deal will run from 2011 to 2013. Nigeria's top domestic soccer league has secured a four-year broadcast deal with SuperSport reported as worth US$34 million in total.
The Ugandan Super League (USL),has inked a US$5 million, 5year broadcast deal with South African-based sports channel SuperSport.
South African pay-TV operator SuperSport has agreed a broadcast deal with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the deal will see SuperSport provide live coverage of 20 matches from Kenya’s
second division, starting with Wednesday’s match between Nakumatt FC and Moyas FC, until the end of the current season. The Tusker Premier League, the highest level of club soccer in Kenya,
has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Puma. The deal, which is worth US$117,000 overall, will see Puma sponsor and supply match balls used in the league. "The partnership between KPL and Puma will cost Kshs ten million over three and a half years.
“Each team will be provided with balls while Puma will gain on pitch side branding and as well on the broadcasting point of view SuperSport will be able to capture the brand.”
East Africa Breweries Limited's (EABL) Tusker brand has been announced as the new title sponsor of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). The multi-year agreement, worth US$1.96 million overall,
sees the top flight of soccer within Kenya officially known as the Tusker Premier League for the next three years.
Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars have announced new sponsorship deals with Puma and Metropolitan Life respectively.
Mathare United's one-year apparel deal with Puma sees the German sports manufacturer supplying the soccer team with boots, replica merchandise to sell to fans as well as playing and training kit.
The combined value of Puma's contribution will total US$34,000. Meanwhile KPL champions Ulinzi Stars, a soccer team made up of the country's military servicemen, have signed a US$17,000 deal with Metropolitan Life Insurance.
The Zambian Super Division is also sponsored by MTN Zambia, which in June announced a 2.4 billion kwacha (about US$480 000), as their sponsorship package this year for both Chipolopolo and the top-flight league with the winner of the championship race getting about US$50 000.
With Dynamos collecting US$75 000, for winning the Premiership title last year under the sponsorship deal between the PSL and Delta Beverages through their Castle Lager brand, it appears the domestic Premiership is still, to some extent, better sponsored compared to the one in Zambia.
The Kenyan Premier League is operated and run as a private limited company incorporated in October 2003 under the Companies Act of Kenya. It is fully owned and managed by the 16 member clubs with each club being a shareholder
KPL and SuperSport signed a $5.5 million four-year partnership deal, the biggest football sponsorship in the country and in the region. The deal
which is expected to expire in 2011 will see a renegotiated contract double that amount to $11 million.

You still don't get it, and due to that, you will continue to beat about the bush on this topic.
Did he play for the qualifying matches prior to the WC 2010? Why then did you receive him since he didn't take part in any of those matches? Why are you crying now, when the same thing is happening? I could go back to 2010 and copy some of your comments and paste it here for you to recall you complements toward him at the time though didn't play a single match before the WC 2010. Today you are here talking trash just because he wasn't able to play any of the qualifying matches. Were we not the ones who created that atmosphere for him? Think about it.
Like it was 4 years ago, it will be the same this time around whether you like it or not. Just get use to it for this is just the beginning. You haven't seen anything yet.
Now, allow me to answer your question for you. According to you, what if he comes and couldn't play for the entire WC matches then what are we going to do? How many midfielders can we take to the WC tournament? Can you answer me that? The minimum would be 8 midfielders. If he gets injured, don't we have 7 others who also are capable of taken his place? Some of these 7 players or midfielders may not have the same quality KPB has, which is a fact, they can still do their best to handle the task. Whatever the case may be, the best is to be taken to any tournament. That is why he is needed in the team.
Now let me ask you this, haven't you seen and player who usually doesn't get hurt, however, got hurt in the middle of a tournament? How about that? Nothing is guaranteed, Sir.

Haaaa D.T.P. you made me daff. Just have a moment and re-ponder on all the kw3sions that you wanted me to hanza you again, and see for yourself you & me who was a real traitor for a simple word "Principles" over here! So you meant, KPB was here purposely only for W/C tournaments right? I guess you may be one of those men whose doesn't care whether a woman loves them for their money sake only and I won't be surprise about that.
What kind of Standard, Rules, Regulations, Examples, Dignity, Discipline etc, are we trying to instil in the team for the future valuable players born out side the country to abide by? Oh W/C is just around the corner so NOTHING MATTERS anymore. And do you think after the W/C all the top players ask GFA to give them break until the next W/C, would you agree to that? We are all human beings but we can't behave and tolerate things as the same. Some men would accept infidelity on their partners side and others may be not. So in this case, which side can you say is right than the other. We are behaving as if without KPB, we cannot achieve nothing at Brazil if we do kwalify. Do you expect Dignity in the team or just because of W/C, nothing matters?
Remember, what goes round will definitely come round sooner or later!
Haaa I daff with shock.

What rule and regulations are you talking about? Did we have any none of us didn't know? Why now are you hiding under rules and regulations? Don't go there, Boss, because there was nothing like that there. Don't begin to formulate one.
When you talk about rules and regulations set without a good foundation, you make mistakes. You were here with us all and Kevin was recruited into the stars when he hadn't play a single qualifying match. You accepted him. You praised him. You were happy for his inclusion. Why now you're crying for the same thing you were happy about 4 years ago? Why didn't you stop it at the beginning? That is my question to you. Is it because we have the players now? Didn't we have even better players 4 years ago?
Rules and regulations are set to be followed? The moment you ignored the rules and regulations, you wouldn't find it easy to get everything back to normal within a day. It will take time. This is when there are rules to follow. In this case there was none! Since there were no rules to begin with, you can't make one in the middle of a season. After the coming WC and you want to implement rules regarding qualifying matches and WC games, then you can do so.
Now allow me to draw your attention to some points you and others are missing. Look at this situation from a microscopic view and you would understand. Usually when players are unavailable for national assignments, the citizens tend to overlook at the benefits of the situation. One may not understand the reasons of a situation but when a microscopic apparatus is set on such a situation, good materials become apparent to the naked eyes. Here are some examples.
Michael Essien got hurt in Afcon 2010, and couldn’t participate in the following national assignments. This was the same time Emmanuel Agyemang Babu was called to step into Bison’s shoes. Not that Badu had not been invited. He had for several occasions but could not get the opportunity to represent. As it is obvious, Badu has become one of our core midfielders in that department today. Essien is back, yes, however when one looks at the Black Stars bench, Badu is seen and always ready to contribute.
Kevin Prince Boateng announced his retirement from the national duty in November 4th, 2011. In his absent, Rabiu Mohammed was called. As a witness, Rabiu is now an unmovable pillar in the Black Stars midfield department. It wasn’t only Rabiu. Through Kevin’s retirement, Wakaso Mubarrack has as well had the opportunity to play for the Black Stars and now is one of the utility players the team possesses.
Asamoah Gyan took a brief vacation, I wouldn’t call his break a retirement. With him out, Majeed Warris and Richmond Boakyie Yiadom were invited into the Stars fold. Even with the invitations, they couldn’t get the chance to present their case as being Black Stars materials, especially Warris, until both Jordan and Andrea Ayew were injured and couldn’t make it to a friendly match in Chester, Pennsylvania. Today, one of our reliable strikers, is seen in the name of Majeed Warris, whom according to the Stars goal machine, Asamoah Gyan, loves playing with.
With the examples above, whom among us could be bold enough to say the country hasn’t benefited from all these retirements, breaks or whatever you will call it? Those who brought their retirement slips came back and together have formed a formidable squad with the new-comers. In other words, because of their retirement, we could brag today of having a solid bench.
There are always positive sides of every situation.
Mohammed Polo isn’t the only public figure condemning KPB. Kofi Manu, Aduana Stars Chief Executive Officer has as well vowed to demonstrate against any invitation handed to the player. Tony Yeboah too added his. A player some time ago, the country had to beg before he would respond. Today has the nerve to also criticize.
Here are few humble questions to these football gurus and the fans. Which one of them the nation, Ghana, belongs to? Is Kevin not a Ghanaian anymore? If he is then why stop him from serving his country?

Joe wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's Christmas Party. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.
Joe had to force himself to open his eyes, & the first thing he saw is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose! Joe sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean & pressed. He looks around the room & sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean.
So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror.
Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:
"Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, Darling! Love, Ghana"
He stumbles to the kitchen & sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. Joe asks, "Son, what happened last night?"
"Well, you came home after 3 A.M drunk & out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door."
Confused, he asked his son, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?"
His son replies, "Oh THAT!... Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, 'Leave me alone bitch, I'm married to Mrs Ghana'"

Yes, he will play this time "of course". Almost every football pitch in Egypt is relatively better or "softer" than any pitch in Ghana. So he will play this time. One thing we need to remember is that, every human being is an "economic man"-I mean every human being seek to exploit every system to his or her advantage based on the kind of asset, knowledge, skill or any other thing that person has. KPB only wants to play "comfortable" matches because he thinks he can "call the shots"-so he gives some kind of excuses to avoid "uncomfortable" matches. Akwasi Appiah, the Coach also wants to be an "economic man" by ignoring KPB's inconsistencies so he (AA) can get KBP to play in the World Cup. Akwasi Appiah knows that he needs good players because if "things don't go all that well" at the World Cup, he is going to share part of the blame. So he is going to be an "economic man" by ignoring millions of accusation and criticism about KBP and invite the guy to play. After all the end justifies the means. If Akwasi Appiah can still manage the perceived discontent among the players (because of the "monkey dey work and baboon dey chop" problem)then that's fine. Any other player in the team can also make up his mind whether to play or not because KPB is back in the team. All these issues could be settled before the World Cup.

Africa under-represented at World Cup - Blatter
Fifa president Sepp Blatter wants more places at the World Cup for African and Asian countries.
For the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Europe has 13 places in the finals, African has five and Asian has four.
"This flawed state of affairs must be rectified," Blatter wrote in the governing body's new weekly magazine.
"Africa, the confederation with the most member associations (54), is woefully under-represented at the World Cup."
He added: "As long as this remains the case African sides may never win an intercontinental trophy, regardless of progress on the playing side.
"From a purely sporting perspective I would like to see globalisation finally taken seriously and the African and Asian national associations accorded the status they deserve at the Fifa World Cup.
"It cannot be that the European and South American confederations lay claim to the majority of the berths at the World Cup (18 or 19 teams) because taken together they account for significantly fewer member associations (63) than Africa and Asia (100).
"At the end of the day an equal chance for all is the paramount imperative of elite sport."

We are all Ghanaians and all we need is to go to Brazil.Exactly the same is what Akwasi Appiah wishes. If Boateng did not play in the 6-1 thrash and the coach needs him now, what is the stupidity in this? Egypt is not a very bad side, and it is not absolutely impossible for them to also thrash us the same way to qualify,ok? All is not yet done for us,so you and those who think like you should leave the coach in peace to concentrate and pick his best team to Egypt.Even we don`t know if the game will still be held in Cairo or not. That place would surely be a hell for us,even more than the South African penalty three yrs ago.Like the Captain,Asamoah Gyan himself have said, even our players are scared to play in Cairo! This is what fools like you should pray and think about, not insulting the coach who is doing a great job for us all to be happy. Aboa like that!

Few can deny that Egypt’s chances of overturning the odds and a five-goal-deficit in the match against Ghana in the return leg of the final round of World Cup qualifiers are minimal.
However, they are not impossible.
On 25 May 2005, Italian champions AC Milan faced off with English outfit from Merseyside, Liverpool, in Istanbul, Turkey in the final game of the European Champions League.
Milan scored three goals in the first 45 minutes, to the extent that the Italian fans began celebrating regaining the highest-profile European trophy.
However, Liverpool pulled off a superb comeback in the second half, scoring three goals and eventually winning the game on penalties.
In football, there is always hope. But hope cannot be present without analysing the reasons why the Egyptian team conceded six goals, and how would it turn the odds around.
In the Baba Yara stadium game, the Ghanaians used a deft trick, the deep-lying forward.
Spartak Moskow striker Abdul Majeed Waris always placed himself between Egypt’s left-back and centre-left back, creating space for Asamoah Gyan to mingle behind Egypt’s backline; this was employed to bring Ghana their first goal.
The same trick was used by Michael Essien in the second goal, but with a different technique. The Ghanaian midfielder exploited left-back Ahmed Shedid’s defensive vulnerabilities and centre-back Mohamed Naguib low pace and lack of concentration to run through the same space.
Every Ghana goal exploited that weak point in a way or another, the area between the left-back and the neighbouring centre-back, beside the weak point every Egyptian team in history had, air balls.
Enough with the past; there is a glimmer of hope in the future.
The trick in the 19 November game is creating a “fiesta” of efficient attacking football while being responsible at the back. To achieve this “fiesta”, at least five players should have pure attacking tasks, with the assistance of two more supporting players.
The Egyptian team does not lack the technical abilities to score five goals against the Black Stars; instead, the challenge is physical.
American head coach Bob Bradley should borrow some tactical tweaks from his predecessor Hassan Shehata’s playbook.
1. Two centre-backs and a sweeper
These two centre-backs should not lack speed or physical presence, as they would act as the last defensive line against Ghanaian attacks. The best candidates for this role are Wael Gomaa and youngster Rami Rabee’a.
A sweeper will act as a “water carrier”, picking the ball from the backline and giving it to the creative players with attacking tasks. However, this is not as easy as it sounds. This player will have to combat high Ghanaian pressure in the first third of the pitch, thus this player must be creative, technically adept and supportive of the midfielders. Hossam Ghaly fulfills these criteria, assuming he can overcome the obstacle of his inconsistent performances.
1. Supporting wing-backs
Those wing-backs are the key for a five-goal-difference win. The Ghanaians apply a high-defensive-line; this requires a quick, technical wing-back who can make accurate crosses without neglecting his defensive responsibilities during the Ghanaian attacks. This player is definitely not Ahmed Shedid. Sayed Moa’wad on the left and Ahmed El Mohammady on the right are safe – albeit not perfect – choices.
1. One ball-winning midfielder
To block goals, you should own the ball.
Ahmed Fathy pulled off a decent performance in Ghana; he can win the ball without conceding a foul in normal circumstances.
Then comes the question, how in the world can one player stand in front the likes of Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien in the Ghanaian midfield?
“Virtual midfielders” are the answer.
The sweeper will have to push forward in support of the ball-winning midfielder, while one of the attacking midfielders will have to help with the midfield’s defensive tasks, and receive the ball and transform defence to attack.
1. Four frontline players
This requires two attacking midfielders (Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abu Trika) and two strikers.
One of the attacking midfielders (Probably Abu Trika) will have to pull back in assist to midfield, look to apply pressure on Ghanaian midfield and receive the ball to transform defence to attack.
Looking at three consecutive African Nations Cup trophies, Egypt’s frontline operates better when playing with two strikers.
The presence of two strikers gives a team many advantages, foremost of which is constant pressure on the weak Ghanaian backline. One of these strikers has to assist Ahmed Fathy in his difficult task of facing off against strong Ghanaian midfield. Mohamed Nagy “Gedo” is a natural striker who has the ability to fulfill such defensive tasks; he is a poacher who does not lack for goal-scoring talent. The other striker should be a well-built target man. A target man is a player who looks to receive balls in the final third of the pitch and feed it to other players as Salah and Abu Trika. This target man will have to lie deep and present a similar model to what Waris presented in the first game. This has Amr Zaki written all over it.
1. Faith
Bradley is no psychotherapist, but if he can give his players faith in themselves and in the possibility of overturning the odds, bolstered with the enthusiasm of 30,000 fans in 30 June stadium, the miracle just might happen.
