6th March parade to take place in Bimbila amid alleged threats

The Northern Regional Security Council has given the go ahead for the celebration of Ghana’s 60th Independence Day anniversary parade at Bimbila in the Nanumba-North District despite claims of security threat.

The Nanumba-North District Security Council (DISEC) had sought permission to cancel the today’s parade in the district capital due to alleged threats from two feuding factions – Dasana and Nakpa – who are caught up in a protracted chieftaincy dispute.

But after a crunch meeting between the Regional Security Council, the Nanumba-North District Security Council and the feuding factions Sunday, the decision was taken for the celebration to go ahead.

The Nanumba-North District Police Commander ASP Ben Aniah who confirmed the today’s celebration will come off said security will be beefed up to protect lives and property.

He assured that adequate security personnel on the ground can manage the situation even without additional security.

“Pupils are marching live, security will be tight but even my team is in our numbers and can handle the situation so no one should entertain any fear,” he assured.

The march pass in Bimbila is expected to commence at 07:00am Monday with the inspection of parade by leadership of the District Security Council.

Meanwhile, twenty seven basic, junior and senior high schools, six voluntary organizations including the security within the Tamale Metropolis will take part at the regional celebration parade at the Jubilee Park.
