The Director of the Transformation Programmes Office of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo will be arraigned before a Kaneshie District Court today November 6, 2019, and charged with treason felony.
His Lawyer, Martin Kpebu who together with the family of the suspect spent the whole Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) Headquarters trying to have access to him, disclosed that the move is aimed at frustrating his efforts to secure bail for him.
He hinted that they may have to proceed to the High Court since a District Court has no jurisdiction to grant him bail for the offence he has been charged with which is treason felony.
According to Martin Kpebu, the wife, sons and other relatives of his client were been able to see him even after several hours of waiting at the premises of the BNI. He, as his lawyers were also denied access to his client.
“They denied his wife, sons, sister, uncle and other brothers – all of them- they have denied them access. They have been waiting since 6:30 am. I came much later, and I have also been denied access.
Mr Kpebu then added that the BNI has not adduced any convincing evidence, adding that it is relying on a WhatsApp message of his client to the effect that conditions in Ghana are rife for an Arab Spring and a donation he had made to Take Action Ghana, the group that was allegedly planning the coup to overthrow the Government.
