An Accra District Court has adjourned the coup plot case implicating Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr Benjamin Agordzo as a participant of the treason felony to November 20, 2019.
He has therefore been remanded into police custody by the Kaneshie Magistrate Court and will be retained at the ministries police station.
ACP Agordzo was charged of Abetment to Commit Crime by the state after a suspected involvement with some alleged coup plotters who are also standing trial.
However, after the first hearing the court presided by Eleanor Kakra Ban-Botchway, counsel for the top police officer challenged the jurisdiction of the court to handle the case.
Referring to the law, she dismissed the position by the defence Lawyers that her outfit was incapable of beginning committal proceedings against the suspect was unfounded.
In an interview with the media, Lawyer for ACP Benjamin Agordzo, Martin Kpebu, stated that they will have to wait on the Attorney General’s advice and the bail of indictment statement before the court can proceed.
“So for the Lawyers, since this court does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail, the thing is to go to High Court and seek for bail.”
