Ace lawyer Maurice Ampaw has said that Frank Kwaku Appiah popularly known as Appiah Stadium's ‘wee’ allegations against President Akufo-Addo has serious implications than it may appear as it has the ability to bring the reputation of the highest authority of the land into disrepute.
According to him, the information about the President allegedly engaging in illegality by ‘smoking wee’ could lead to his impeachment.
He argued that the news did not only circulate around the country but may have reached international grounds as well. This he says has negative implications on the President’s image.
This comes on the back of a statement released by the Presidency indicating that President has conveyed his disinterest in the matter to the police.
“It’s a criminal offense to give false information about the presidency, the issue is not about Akufo-Addo but about the office that he occupies. Smoking of “wee” is an illegal conduct and it’s a crime which can lead to the impeachment.”
He appealed that the president should assist investigations by writing his statement for the police to proceed with their work.
“The president did not order the arrest of Appiah Stadium, he would therefore not be in the right position to drop the charges, he should come and write his statement to assist with the investigation.”
Maurice Ampaw contends that per the constitution it is the mandate of the Attorney General to do so.
