An 18-year-old man with no records of psychiatric disorder shot himself to death Monday night at Sangnayili, a remote community near the Nanumba North District capital, Bimbilla.
Nwelgnel Yegbaja, a Konkomba resident allegedly shot himself in the left rib with a local gun at a farmland plunging residents into a state of mourning, days after another death was recorded in the area.
Assembly member for the Juo electoral area, Alfred Nchima, called the police after the deceased was found lying face down in a pool of blood.
Narrating the incident to the police, brother of the deceased said they had planned a routine night hunting of birds before the deceased quietly left the house at his blindside.
He said the deceased left at about 8 pm when they were preparing for the hunting and did not return until a search party found him dead in a bush with his weapon beside him.
He told the police he strongly believed his brother committed suicide but was surprised because he had no records of mental disorder.
The body has since being deposited at the Bimbila Government Hospital morgue and the police are investigating the circumstances leading to the death.
District Crime Officer ASP Ebenezer Peprah who confirmed the incident to Starr News said they have launched an investigation into the matter.
According to him, suicide cases are uncommon in the district and that they will interrogate broadly to unravel what prompted the incident.
