The plagued Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC has been asked by the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Asiedu Nketia to take lessons from his severe beatings.
According to him, Abronye DC should learn not to take the law into his hands with the excuse of citizen arrest law, as such attitude of his has encouraged others in his party to take the law into their hands to beat him up.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Johnson Asiedu Nketia blamed NPP’s Acting Chairman Freddie Blay for Abronye DC's recent behaviour of taking the law into his hands to seize cars purportedly belonging to the state instead of reporting to the state assigned authority to do its work.
“If you remember after the 2016 election, Abronye DC came from Brong Ahafo to Accra to seize cars. Some of us advised him to stop because we knew that after he has been used for their purpose, they would dump him”, he recalled.
“But people like Freddie Blay encouraged Abronye to go on with the law of citizen arrest, where a citizen can effect arrest if they think something is going wrong; they can take the law into their hands to take any action”, he alleged.
He added that “since Abronye DC is not the only citizen who can take the law into his hands, his party members in Brong Ahafo have also taken the law into their hands to beat him up for insulting the Brong Ahafo Regional Chief Imam and the Regional Minister . . . ”
He stressed that Abronye DC is being suffered by his own law as he decided to seize cars with his ‘macho men’ without reporting to the authorities to carry out that assignment.
He however described the act meted out to Abronye DC as nasty which should not be encouraged, adding that as adversary comes with a lesson, Abronye should learn from it and not take the law into his hands again.
“ . . I believe this will serve as a lesson to Abronye DC not to take the law into his hands and accept that there are laws in this country as well as authorities responsible for these laws”, he cautioned.
The NDC Chief Scribe therefore condemned the NPP Deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen for trying to decriminalize the act meted out against Abronye DC with the notion that it is a party matter.
“It is wrong for Obiri Boahen to say that what has happened to Abronye is a party issue and has nothing to do with the law. He should not encourage that in the party; this is a criminal act and has nothing to do with the party”, he chided.
