Over 20 armed police officers have taken over the Aboabo bus station at Alabar in Kumasi after a brawl ensued between some members of the two main parties – the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) – who are claiming ownership of the facility.

Class FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, reported that the NPP supporters, who were wielding offensive weapons, stormed the lorry station to take over the management of the facility in light of the victory of their party in the 2016 presidential elections, only to be met with fierce opposition from some armed supporters of the NDC.

Eight persons have sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the Manhyia Government Hospital.

Police have retrieved a sack containing weapons from a loaded truck at the terminal.

The NDC faction is warning of a reprisal if the forceful takeover persists.

Police have picked up leadership of both factions to assist in investigations.
