Musician and politician Kwame Asare Obeng alias A Plus has explained that in 2012 when the current Executive Director of the National Council for Curriculum Assessment ( NaCCA) Prince Hamidu Armah applied for the Ghana Education Trust (GETFund) scholarship, he was duly qualified as needy but brilliant, pointing out that at the time, he was not the boss of NaCCA.
Many have condemned the NaCCA boss for having benefitted from the Scholarship meant for brilliant or gifted but needy students.
But A Plus in defense has explained that he deserved it: “In 2012 he applied and was awarded a scholarship to study for a doctorate in Mathematics Education at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom. The truth is, he qualified as a needy but brilliant student. He did not receive the scholarship when he became executive secretary under NPP, “he explained.
A Plus went into a bit of the NaCCA boss’s background to drum home his point.
“I’ve known Prince since childhood. Until her death, his late grandmother, Auntie Esi Nyinsua and my mother were very good friends. He lived in Ansaful just about 10 minutes walking distance from my village, Gomoa Asebu.
I’m proud of the man Prince has become. His story should be a motivation to all young people – There is an opportunity for every willing heart. You can be whatever you want to be irrespective of where you are from. From his trousers in this photo you can tell that boys…” he revealed.
Prior to getting the scholarship, Prince Armah was a teacher in a senior high school in the country with a Master’s degree.
