The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare Ansah, urged Ghanaians to help Government contain the spread of Coronavirus Pandemic to avoid total lockdown of the country.

He explained that, many people are apprehensive about lockdown announced by President in parts of the country but still apathetic to the preventive protocols of COVID-19.

Ghana has recorded 313 cases of Coronavirus with 6 deaths as at April 7, 2020.

President of Ghana Akufo Addo on March 27, 2020, announced a partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Greater Kumasi for two weeks as an enhanced measure to prevent increasing community spread having closed down all Borders -Land, sea and Air spaces. Government also imposed mandatory 14 days quarantine for all returnees.

According Hon. Opare Ansah, President Akufo Addo will have no option than to lockdown the entire country should the virus spread rapidly across all regions, therefore, advised Ghanaians to play their parts to help curb the pandemic.

“As we speak if the regional cases rise rapidly, President Akufo Addo has no option than to lockdown Eastern Region, lockdown Central Region, lockdown all the other regions just as he has lockdown Greater and Accra and Kumasi so we all have the responsibility to help contain this pandemic and reduce the spread to avoid total lockdown which will affect everyone.”

The Law Maker said this when he launched a COVID-19 project dubbed ‘Suhum MPs Support Projects’ in his quest to complement government effort towards fighting the deadly coronavirus.

The MP distributed items such as Poly tanks, Veronica buckets, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, spraying machines, tissue papers among others worth GH¢200,000.

He also donated ten(10) Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, to the Municipal Health Directorate.

He pleaded with the constituents not to abuse social interventions announced by government to cushion Ghanaians during the pandemic.

“I am pleading with you not to abuse interventions rolled by our President Akufo Addo to Cushion Ghanaians in this difficult time. President says water is free for three months that doesn’t mean we should waste water because it’s free. We must also respect every directive of the President on combating COVID-19 to the later. The Coronavirus Pandemic should not be capitalized to profiteer.”

The MP has also formed a group of volunteers made up of over 100 persons drawn from NADMO and political support groups trained by Ghana Health Service to embark on Public Education on the disease.
