The former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, revealed that he would have been overjoyed to be chosen as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's running mate in the 2024 general elections by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview with Asaasepa Radio, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe said that while he would have loved to serve his party and nation in such a high office, he would not rush but instead allow God to dictate his political journey.

"What I know is that God has His plans for man. When the time is up, nobody can stop what God has caused to happen. But I will not rush ahead of God; I will allow Him to do as He wishes. Whatever He asks me to do, I will obey. God's time is the best. I have said that I would have been very happy if I was selected as the running mate."

Dr. Osei Adutwum was considered by many political analysts as one of the favorites to partner with the then-governing NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the 2024 general elections.

He is regarded as a hardworking, calm, and fine politician who is respected and loved by many across the political divide in the country.

However, he was ultimately overlooked by the party, which settled on the former Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South as its running mate.

The NPP suffered a huge and embarrassing defeat in the 2024 general elections, securing only 88 out of the 275 parliamentary seats.
