The reconstitution of the Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been done with the inauguration of the Council scheduled to take place today, Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Council chamber of the university.
This has become possible following long mediation involving persons like Minister of Education, Chief of Staff and others who have been at the behest of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, who’s the Chancellor of the KNUST in a bid to find solution to the impasse.
The reconstitution of the Governing Council was put on hold after government and other labour unions such as Teachers and Educational Workers Union(TEWU) and University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) took entrenched positions.
Government insisted that the unions change their representatives on the council, a position that was fiercely rejected by the unions which led to the KNUST Lecturers and members of TEWU to embark on a strike action in protest.
Information available to this website suggest that the Council will not have many new members except for government appointees and representatives of Conference of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).
Some members of management of the university including the University Relations Officer, Dean of Students and Head of Security may lose their positions in the new changes expected to take place.
