Barely 24 hours after an order for Ghanaian students to completely leave their halls of residence, life seems to have left Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Until Monday, there were students all over campus with many preparing for their mid-semester examinations.

But a boycott of lectures declared by the Students’ Representative Council and its concomitant demonstration resulted in the vandalism of property.

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) immediately ordered a closure of the university while imposing a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Ghanaian students were asked to leave by midday Tuesday while foreign students were given some time to vacate.

The closure is indefinite as stakeholders deliberate on the way forward.

Already, government says the university needs a “high intervention”.

A visit to the campus on Wednesday by Onua FM‘s Kwame Baffoe Agyekum revealed that the students have doggedly complied with the directive.

Only cleaners were seen still clearing the debris from Monday’s destruction.
