Spokesperson for former President John Agyekum Kufour, Frank Agyekum has discounted claims that the erstwhile New Patriotic Party government had plans to assassinate The Enquirer newspaper Editor, Raymond Archer.
According to Frank Agyekum, as far as the former president is concerned, there was no plan of such nature to eliminate anybody let alone a journalist.
Excerpts of the new edition of the controversial wikileaks report cited former president Kufour’s government to have plotted to kill the “Enquirer” Editor Raymond archer.
But speaking on Asempa Fm’s current affairs programme Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, Frank Agyekum noted that looking at the former president’s record of media relations, such criminal activity can never be attributed to him.
He said worst things were published by Raymond Archer and other journalists but there was no circumstance that Kufour ordered for anybody’s elimination.
Raymond Archer had revealed in an interview on Radio Gold on Wednesday morning, how his story on the kickbacks being taken at the castle during the erstwhile NPP administration got his life threatened by the government.
But Mr. Frank Agyekum stated that “there is no way Kufour could repeal the criminal libel law which sought to protect journalists and turn back to plot against them”.
He rubbished the claims by the whistle blower website on the former President adding that, “it should be treated with no seriousness”.
He debunked reports that the former president denigrated Muslims in the wikileaks report saying that the relationship between the Muslims and president Kufour was cordial and wondered how he can possibly insult their sensibilities.
“Throughout Kufour’s rule in the whole eight years, the NPP’s votes swelled up in the three northern regions so this should obviously mean they have good relationship with NPP so Kufour should not have been so ungrateful by denigrating them,’’ he said.
Reacting to reports in the media that former president Kufour and some stalwarts of NPP are reportedly holding meetings to change Nana Addo for the many revelations against him in the latest wikileaks report; Frank Agyekum described it as “mere rumours”.
Mr. Frank Agyekum described the rumours as balderdash, bogus and wicked lies that are attempted to destroy the party.
He noted the former president is still behind Nana Akuffo Addo to lead the NPP to victory 2012 so there are no plans to oust him.
