A young woman undergoing some form of mental treatment in Tamale, Northern Region was found hanging dead on a tree Wednesday morning.
The deceased is Alhassan Azaratu, aged 35. The incident happened at Nyohini a suburb of Tamale near the Tamale Sports Stadium, TV3’s Northern Regional correspondent Zakaria Abdul-Kadiri gathered.
The family head, Yakubu Fusieni confirmed to TV3 that she had been under treatment for mental illness for about four years now.
According to him, at the time he was going to call the Muslim prayer for dawn, the deceased was seated outside.
He only returned to find Alhassan Azaratu hanging on a tree nearby. It is not clear what might have prompted the woman to take her own life.
She was survived by four children.
Meanwhile, the police inspected the body to ensure that there was no foul play before releasing the body to the family for burial.
