Solomon Owusu, a prominent member of the Movement for Change, asserts that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can no longer consider the Ashanti Region as its stronghold.

Historically, the NPP has labeled the Ashanti Region as its stronghold, as the majority of the party's votes during general elections have consistently originated from this area.

The NPP's flagbearer for the 2024 Presidential election, Dr. Mahamudu, who is the incumbent Vice President, is currently on a three-day tour of the Ashanti Region. This campaign effort aims to rally support from local residents in anticipation of the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024.

However, Solomon Owusu, commenting on the Vice President's tour on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM, noted a significant decrease in the NPP's influence within the Ashanti Region.

He claimed that the Alan Kyerematen-led Movement for Change has gained considerable support in the Ashanti Region, attracting more residents to the party each day.

"The Ashanti Region is no longer the stronghold of the NPP; the Movement for Change now holds the majority of the Ashanti Region's support. The NPP has proclaimed to the world that the Ashanti Region is its stronghold. So, if the party is campaigning there, why should people be bused to the venue to demonstrate that the area is indeed the party's stronghold? The NPP has adopted this strategy because it feels threatened. The party is aware that currently, out of every ten people in the Ashanti Region, seven support the Movement for Change. Quote me anywhere," stated Solomon Owusu.

He continued, "If you go to the streets, the people will tell you that their businesses have suffered under this government. The residents of the Ashanti Region, who are predominantly farmers and traders, are now facing a rising exchange rate and a falling interest rate, which are detrimental to their businesses. So, what makes the NPP think that the Ashanti Region will continue to support them?" Solomon Owusu questioned.
